Church of Christ at Hagerstown

Practice & Purpose

CCH Practice

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling: one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6) Because there is one body we are not a part of a denomination. Jesus is the “head over all things to the church” (Ephesians 1:22). Therefore, Jesus is the Head of our congregation. We have no denominational headquarters or governing hierarchy. Just like the church found in the Bible we also as followers of Christ call ourselves simply “Christians” (Acts 11:26). The Bible is the Word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Therefore, the Word of God is our sole rule of faith and practice. We preach, teach, and live by God’s Word.

CCH Purpose

Jesus told the 12 disciples that He was going to build His church (Matthew 16:18). His church began on a day called Pentecost shortly after He ascended into Heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father. The event is recorded in Acts 2. The Church that Jesus built came to be known by His name. In Romans 16:16, Paul wrote that “All the churches of Christ sent greetings.” Today there are still churches of Christ that continue on according to the pattern of the first New Testament church. The Church of Christ at Hagerstown’s goal is to be in all things the church of Jesus Christ as described in the New Testament.
